Sankaralingam Jagannathan passes away at age of 100

Sankaralingam Jagannathan (RLA 2008) passed away at Ghandigram, Tamil Nadu in Southern India, on Tuesday, February 12th, around 12.30. He died at the age of 100.

Sankaralingam and his wife Krishnammal Jagannathan have worked tirelessly to redistribute land to the landless and are the founders of the organisation LAFTI – Land for the Tillers’ Freedom. The Right Livelihood Award Jury honoured them in 2008 “…for two long lifetimes of work dedicated to realising in practice the Gandhian vision of social justice and sustainable human development, for which they have been referred to as ‘India’s soul’.”
