Swine-flu hits indigenous people
Lacking resistance to introduced diseases, the Yanomami in the Amazon jungle have been hit by the H1N1-virus.
Survival International’s director Stephen Corry calls on the Venezuelan and Brazilian governments to act immediately to halt the epidemic. “If they do not, we could once more see hundreds of Yanomami dying of treatable diseases”, he warns.
