Feminist Foreign Policy and Its Implications for Women Human Rights Defenders

Human Rights, 03/03/2021

Together with the Permanent Mission of Sweden in Geneva, Doria Feminist Fund, Center for Feminist Foreign Policy and PEN America, the Right Livelihood Foundation is organising a webinar on March 4, 5pm CET on Feminist Foreign Policy and Its Implications for Women Human Rights Defenders.

Feminist Foreign Policy (FFP) was first established in Sweden in 2014 from the idea that sustainable peace and sustainable development can never be achieved if half of the population is excluded from the equation. One of the keystones of an effective FFP is to protect and support Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRD) working in circumstances where women have been traditionally excluded from political decisions, or even criminalised for their feminist work. Ensuring their ability to advance women’s rights and gender equality must be a priority.

By bringing together decision-makers and feminist activists, this event wants to be a space to share reflections and best practices on how FFP could substantially and concretely improve the lives of WHRD working in a repressive environment, with a particular focus on the case of 2020 Right Livelihood Laureate Nasrin Sotoudeh in Iran.
